Everyday tennis enthusiasts are being offered the possibility to earn a seven-figure prize when they compete against elite players - including top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz - in a one-point battle before the year's first major

Tournament officials of the Melbourne major have revealed the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pit everyday competitors against 22 professionals in a knockout tournament at Melbourne Park

How the Event Will Work

Competitors are set to play 'the decision-making game' to establish who serves or receives, and whoever wins the point will advance to the following stage

The victor of the event will take home approximately half a million pounds

For comparison, players who made it to the semi-finals of the main draw competitions in the 2025 Australian Open won substantial prize money

The US Open organized a revamped, separate mixed doubles tournament in August which motivated top singles players to compete, with the champions receiving $1m

The year's first major held its first-ever single-point competition earlier this year, but the prize fund was a smaller amount and it received minimal attention

The Russian player was the sole elite competitor participating, and his progress concluded when he put the one and only serve permitted into the net in his quarter-final

Officials have not detailed exactly how the event will work, but it is expected to emulate a comparable structure to the previous version

The elite players will be granted to have a single serve and the everyday players twice - as is the standard practice in standard play

While it is uncertain how the bracket will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the location will be the Rod Laver Arena rather than the alternative court

The concluding rounds will occur in a evening slot instead of midday timing

Entry Information

Any Australians - or international players who have registered with the national federation - can enter 'One Point Slam' events at their local tennis clubs

The champions of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a selection process, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory selected to compete in the 'championship round' in a nighttime event on mid-January

There will also be a entry tournament in the final month which everyday players, developing professionals, celebrities and athletic celebrities can enter

It begins on Monday, 12 January and the two winners will qualify for the midweek 'championship match' with the other eight amateurs and top-ranked athletes

"No matter your experience, the ultimate winner will walk away with the reward. Entries will begin shortly at facilities throughout the nation"

Event organizers mentioned there were "additional stars to be announced soon", while the event portal indicated "celebrities" would be involved
