From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
