Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
