The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The last series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.

In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
