My feeling was I got a touch - Carey on DRS survival.

Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey stated he thought he had nicked the ball when he was overturned on DRS during day one of the third Ashes Test against England.

Following his reprieve on 72, Carey went on to make a excellent 106 to guide the hosts reach 326-8 at the end of play in the Adelaide Oval.

The Incident

Australia were 245-6 when Carey went for a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

The England team appealed confidently, certain they had heard an nick, but on-field official Ahsan Raza gave it not out.

After skipper Ben Stokes opted to review the decision, the technology reviewed by third umpire Chris Gaffaney indicated a significant spike but this appeared prior to the ball had made contact with the bat.

Gaffaney added he was of the opinion there was a space between the bat and the ball.

Therefore, Carey was reprieved.

"I thought there was a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat," stated Carey.

"Being given out would have prompted a review, though not a confident one. It made a convincing sound near the bat."

Controversial 'Snicko'

Discussion has swirled about 'the sound wave technology' during the Ashes contest after a several unclear moments.

Bowling coach David Saker hinted the touring side may take this latest incident to a higher level with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"We haven't acted yet, but following today's events, that could change," Saker said.

"We've had doubts about it throughout. We shouldn't be talking about this after a day's play, it should just be better than that. It is what it is."

Emotional Century

His hundred was his maiden in the Ashes.

It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose dad died in recent months. Carey's wife was in tears in the crowd as the batsman celebrated by pointing to the heavens.

"A hundred on home soil with loved ones present is unforgettable," stated Carey.

"You can probably understand my glance skyward. I'm trying not to tear up. It was a fantastic feeling."

Previous Ashes Drama

Carey is not new to Ashes controversy.

He was the wicketkeeper who famously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's Cricket Ground in the 2023 Ashes series, resulting in a febrile final day.

On his reprieve he continued: "The technology clearly wasn't synchronized. It is just the way cricket goes - sometimes you have a bit of luck."

"Maybe it went my way."
