Declan Rice Set-pieces from dead balls and free kicks were dangerous. Had freedom to roam on the left but was offside upon receiving with a chance to score. Granted a merited substitution around the 60-minute point. 6

Jude Bellingham Functioned in an advanced position down the right and also did plenty of the hard yards. Demonstrated flashes of quality but mishit an attempt high. Withdrawn in the closing stages for a teammate, his competition, following a yellow card. 7

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s best chance of the first half, his effort well saved by Thomas Strakosha. With Quansah hanging back, it fell to him to provide width on the right although his balls from wide areas were inconsistent. Replaced for the final quarter-hour. Six

The captain The match-winner with his two more strikes at international level. The first a typical opportunist's goal and his next an excellent finish with his head after peeling away from his marker. Now 32, his form is unwavering with the national team are strong contenders in future competitions when he's in the team. 8

Eberechi Eze Found it tough to make an impact out wide. Had a presentable chance after being played in by Bellingham but the keeper made the save. Rashford produced a bigger effect after coming on. 5
