Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
