The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The forward was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
