The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
