A comprehensive search and recovery mission is currently ongoing in the Caribbean Sea for two unlocated boats loaded with relief goods traveling from the Mexican coast to the island of Cuba.

Naval Rescue Missions Initiated

Authorities in Mexico has deployed navy personnel and military search aircraft to locate the two vessels, which were transporting no fewer than nine total sailors, according to a navy statement.

The ships had been scheduled to arrive in Cuba's capital on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been a complete lack of contact from them and zero verification of their docking, the statement clarified.

The Situation of Humanitarian Support to the Nation

The island nation has depended significantly on Mexico's over the last several weeks, as the nation endures multiple national electricity failures.

"The crews and captains are veteran seafarers, and the two ships are equipped with appropriate safety systems and communication devices," a spokesperson associated with the mission commented.

The nine crew members are from France, Poland, the United States, and Cuba. Mexican authorities said it has opened communications with rescue coordination centers from the involved countries along with their consular staff.

"We are collaborating completely with the relevant authorities and continue to be hopeful in the crews' ability to safely arrive in Havana," the official further stated.

Recent Relief Mission

Just days before, the Cuban government widely celebrated and warmly received another boat that had delivered a significant amount of donated goods to the country.

That vessel, called "a new Granma" in reference to the vessel in which Castro returned to Cuba to start the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s, brought solar panels, drugs, infant formula, bikes and food.

Larger Geopolitical Backdrop

Volunteers and NGOs have been at the forefront of efforts to bring critical assistance to Cuba starting at the turn of the year, when a fuel embargo on the country began.

The United Nations have since warned of ""critical" shortages of supplies, with in excess of 50,000 operations cancelled in Cuba amid energy rationing.

Foreign policy measures have been ramped up over the past months, with remarks from various officials highlighting the complex nature of diplomatic ties.

In response to certain proposals, a prominent Cuban official declared that "the socialist system of Cuba is non-negotiable."

Accounts suggest that preliminary steps of talks had begun, although their present status remains uncertain.

The Mexican navy affirmed it was committed to using every available asset at its reach to discover the boats and secure the security of the sailors.

As of now, there has been no official comment on the lost ships by the Cuban government.
